Marieke Gouda Foenegreek

After settling in Wisconsin, and unable to find the kind of gouda she knew and loved as a child in the Netherlands, Dutch dairy farmer Marieke Penterman decided to make her own. Her ultra-creamy, traditional gouda gets its golden hue from the hours-old milk of Marieke’s cows, a.k.a. the Gouda Ladies. Dotted with foenegreek (Dutch for fenugreek) seeds that lend this farmstead cheese its delicate nut and maple notes, prepare to be smitten.

How to Pair Foenegreek Gouda

Peanut brittle, maple stroopwafel, or a swath of apple butter harmonize with Foenegreek Gouda’s sweeter notes while the deep umami of perfectly crispy bacon or truffle chips riff off its savory notes. Tipples this cheese enjoys include maple sap soda, a creamy White Russian, and any of the bold and tannic-heavy Nebbiolo reds.
