Instructions

  1. Fry bacon in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes or until fat is rendered. Drain fat and discard. Reduce heat to medium. Add maple syrup; cook and stir for 3-5 minutes longer or until bacon is crisp. Remove from the heat. Transfer to parchment paper to cool; separate pieces. Set aside.
  2. Place pizza stone on lower rack in a cold oven. Heat oven to 400ºF. Bake stone for at least 30 minutes. Meanwhile, sprinkle 3/4 cup cheddar over flatbread to within 1/2 inch of edges. Top with apple and reserved bacon. Sprinkle with remaining cheddar.
  3. Carefully transfer flatbread to pizza stone, using a rimless baking sheet or pizza peel. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until crust edges are deep golden brown and cheese is melted. Garnish with green onions. Serve immediately.

Cheesemonger Tip

Select for cheesemonger info

Do you have questions when shopping for cheese? Ask the cheesemonger! A cheesemonger specializes in the buying and selling of high-quality cheese, usually available in the specialty section of a grocery store or cheese shop. Knowledgeable and passionate, a cheesemonger is a go-to resource for cheese varieties and pairings, proper cheese storage and handling, its cooking applications and cheese brand information.

Aged cheddar is both crumbly and creamy with a rich, nutty flavor that becomes increasingly sharp and complex with age.
