Wisconsin Cheese The Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger Recipe
Active Time
40 Minutes

Look for the Proudly Wisconsin Badge when shopping for cheese. Any brand of Wisconsin Butterkase or Young Cheddar can be used in this recipe.

  1. Heat oven to 400°F. Place a greased wire rack on an aluminum foil-lined rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Arrange bacon strips in a single layer on rack, taking care to not overlap strips. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until bacon is crisp.
  3. Meanwhile, grease grill grate. Heat grill to medium.
  4. Form beef into six patties, 1/3 pound each. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat for 5-8 minutes on each side or until a thermometer inserted in patties reads 160°F. Top with butterkaase and cheddar. Cover and cook for 1-3 minutes longer or until cheeses are melted.
  6. Place arugula on bun bottoms; top with burgers and bacon. Spread tomato jam on bun tops; replace tops.

Cheesemonger Tip

Select for cheesemonger info

Do you have questions when shopping for cheese? Ask the cheesemonger! A cheesemonger specializes in the buying and selling of high-quality cheese, usually available in the specialty section of a grocery store or cheese shop. Knowledgeable and passionate, a cheesemonger is a go-to resource for cheese varieties and pairings, proper cheese storage and handling, its cooking applications and cheese brand information.

Once you try Butterkaase, aka Butterkäse, and cheddar on your burgers, you’ll be hooked! They’re both excellent melting cheeses. For sharper flavor, try an aged cheddar – the bolder flavor will be a mouthwatering addition to the beef and jam.
